Getting ready to go to bed. What a wonderful, magical, cherished day. I hope that each of you had a very blessed, merry and joyful Christmas. I loved every minute. Opening gifts for hours – enjoying each toy with Finn as he opened. Watching him and Miles tote around, in no rush to open the next gift. To be their age again.
The best gift is my family, our health and having so many blessings that we often overlook that so many go without. Clean water, food, shelter, comfort. I tried to take time today to just look around – soaking up the sweetness off this moment. This time in our life. It could very possibly be the last Christmas I’ll ever have with a baby. Miles will be in full swing next year and I think we’re done having kids. Which I’m excited for every phase/age of our growing family’s life. But there is nothing sweeter than rocking Miles to bed. I rocked Finn to bed every night till he went into a ‘big boy’ bed. I plan to do the same with Miles. I know some people disagree with it, but I absolutely LOVE watching them fall asleep in my arms. The peace fall across their face and chubby cheeks. The smell of their freshly bathed hair when I kiss their forehead. Mmmm . Babies are so sweet.
The sweetest baby ever – Jesus. I wonder what it was like for Mary. Holding such a tiny miracle. In a stable. In awe. In wonder.
Here are some photos of some of my favorite traditions and decorations from earlier in December. I have more to post on Christmas, but will have to be later. Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoyed this glorious day!
We’ll start with Miles’ 1st Christmas ornament.
Baby Finn. 2008 Christmas. I can still taste those cheeks!! He was such a chub.
I learned the tradition of St. Nick’s day with my parents. You leave your shoes out on 12/6th Eve – with your wish list for Santa. He comes to pick up the list (and enjoy a tasty treat from us ; ) and often leaves behind little goodies. Our elf, Wilson, likes to hitch a ride and comes on this night as well.
Our advent house. Finn was SO into it this year.
Christmas cactus from my step mom (love it – never saw one before). And the Mickey Christmas clocks that sing. I picked them up when I was in High School – spent a small fortune on it then, but had to have it. So glad I did because its now one of our favorite Christmas decorations! : )
This cool little tractor was made by Finn and his favorite little elf helper, Emily. He was so excited about it and talked about this particular evening all year long. I love it!! Makes me smile every time I see it.
Snowman here likes to tap dance to 2 different songs. Granny got it for us a few years back and every year the boys dance around to the music and get so excited over this little thing. Another family favorite.
Finn’s 1st Christmas ornament.
My mom gave me this ornament when I was younger. I love her for many reasons, but one of the things she taught me growing up is to plan. Plan the day, plan the month, plan the year – plan the next 10 years. Have goals, work towards them. Achieve them! If you don’t dream, you don’t go anywhere besides where you are. Thank you, mom, for guiding me. Many of my adventures stem from your teaching!
Another tradition with my mom is going to the Nutcracker Ballet. Which she continued on with her grandaughters. This particular ornament dances around my tree. Love my little Clara mouse.
Finn & Miles gifts from Santa from St. Nick’s day.
Wilson! Finn is going to miss him so much. He LOVED looking for him and having him around this month.
Last, but not least, I love this ornament because it reminds me of Colorado. I lived there when I first started dating Shane. Miss it so much. He proposed to me on Copper Mountain. He learned how to snowboard there. I hope to someday get back out there – or at least have a house there. Cannot wait to get on my board this winter!!
Merry Christmas! May God bless you and your loved ones the rest of this year and next!
