Miles Asher made his way into the world at 10:58 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17th. Weighing 8.2 1/2 pounds and measuring 21 1/2″ long. I started some labor signs early that morning and my doctor opted to start induction Tues afternoon as opposed to waiting till Thursday (or to see if things would develop on their own). We had reason to question if my water had broke. The IV drip started at 5 p.m., my water officially broke around 6:30 p.m. but little Miles was having trouble so they increased my dose of potosum (sp?) after I received the epideral. His heart start going above and below the charts – racing, dropping, and leaving Shane and I (and the medical staff) very uneasy about the whole thing. After watching him for 10-15 minutes with internal monitors they called my doctor and we were immediately headed to the O.R. My doctor was there in 15 minutes and within that time, I was prepped and laying on the table, waiting for her to start surgery. Shane and I had no idea how serious things were…probably best. Wasn’t till after we were in recovery that we heard the reality of the situation.
Miles had the cord wrapped around his neck, twice. There was also meconium in my uterus from him being in distress. Shane and I both know people who have lost babies or came close to losing babies and the mothers in this situation. Bottom line – Miles and I received a miracle Tuesday night (thank you to those who were praying!). Now every time I look at his sweet face it is extra special to me – knowing things could’ve easily been very different. Thank you Lord for your protection, provision and putting us in the very best and skilled hands. We know it is by Your grace that we are here and healthy. Thank you Dr. Ellis for your quick action and expertise and for caring so deeply for us – your judgment saved us. We love you so much already – and are extremely appreciative to have you as our magnificent doctor. Thank you medical staff at Akron Summa for your compassion, care and keeping us calm. We had the most wonderful professionals caring for us throughout the labor and also during our stay. Truly – we were blessed beyond belief.
This was my second ‘section’ and it took much longer for the doctors to close my abdomen. I’m very sore – but its so worth it. It amazes me how Miles is here – perfect in every way and it amazes me that my body is recovery so quickly from surgery. We came home last night. Hopefully I will be back in full swing soon enough.
I hope you enjoy these hospital photos of Miles as much as I am. : ) I will have him in the studio this week with the help of my wonderful husband to move props, lights, etc. I’ll post those asap. I will also post, in a week or two, to let you know how I’m feeling and hopefully with an estimated timeline for my return to the studio.
Thank you, everyone, for your well wishes and most impotantly – prayers. We were lifted and SAVED. I know medical professionals face these circumstances regularly – but it certainly was not what I was expecting. And I feel abudantly blessed to have all of us here – perfectly healthy. Amen!

Totally has daddy’s thick head of hair…love it! And smells sooooo good.

Love how it looks like he’s praying here….he holds his hands together all the time.

Big yawn…

Those would be my swollen fingers next to his very loooong toes. : )

Love you so very much Miles – thank you for staying. : )
